History of the Club

The Club was originally formed at Rhoden in 1904 and disbanded at Shale Hillock in 1912. It was reformed in 1926 by the men of Immanuel Parish Church. The Reverent J Dodd was President Elect on March 7th 1927. A request to form a Ladies’ Committee to help with teas was placed in the Church Magazine on 19th March 1929. The Club moved to its present site (New Lane) in 1934 from the 1927 site of Town Bent (a meadow close to Town Bent Pit). A cricket square was professionally laid and the first full season went ahead at New Lane in 1937 under the captaincy of Mr Carl Whittle. Mr Harry Gaskell included amongst the players was a member of the 1904 team. The first pavilion (proper) was erected by Jacob Ward (Builders) in 1947 comprising two changing rooms with a front porch. This was replaced in 1978 by a more modern building inclusive of toilet facilities. This now forms part of the present structure completed in 1994 with combined lounge and Bowling Club. Membership of the Club was thrown open in 1960 by the Reverend J Beal to admit anyone despite race or creed. In the 1994 season, Oswaldtwistle Immanuel were admitted to the Ribblesdale Senior League to bring the number of clubs up to an even fourteen.
