History

Soon after taking over their Calder Vale Sports Club grounds at Holden Road, which cater for rugby and soccer in the winter and cricket in the summer, the cricket club joined the Ribblesdale League for the 1965 season and by the 1970’s was  a major force in Division One winning the championship in 1971, 1973. 1974. 1976 and 1977. Since then there has been one more title in 1985 and unfortunately at the end of season 1991 relegation to Division Two for the first time.

For a three year spell just before that the 2nd X1 had joined the 1st X1 in Division One. Now the Bank Holiday derby matches between the club’s two sides will be, temporarily it is hoped in Division Two.

In the early days, Belvedere had difficulties with the ground caused by the rugby pitch at the bottom end of their sloping cricket area. St. Andrew's ground needed to be hired for matches early, in the season. But with money spent on additional drainage, those problems have gone. The square has been helped by the installation of an artificial pitch and a thriving Youth policy has allowed for the creation of a 3rd Xl and a junior side which in 1991 won the new league U‑16 knock‑out competition for the Birchall Cup and thus deprived Earby of a clean sweep of trophies.

The current club chairman, Jack Downey, was the mainstay of' the bowling in the early years along with Terry Clegg before he moved on to Oswaldtwistle and Read. Clegg's all‑round record in 1984 will take some beating: 81 wickets at 11.0 and 504 runs at 31.5. The only other bowlers to have passed the 250 wicket mark for the 1st XI are Mick Jones and Peter Roberts. The batting stalwarts have been Stanley Wolfe, Harry Howarth, Bill Oddie, Howard Thomas, Dave Perry and Mick Jones.
